2019 Fitness Challenge is Under Way

Participating PS&L employees are kicking off National Nutrition Month with our Annual Fitness Challenge

March 13, 2019

Pickens Savings and Loan’s participating employees are kicking off National Nutrition Month with our Annual Fitness Challenge. We first implemented a Fitness Challenge in 2017, and it has been a huge hit with the employees. Physical activity and good nutrition can impact your daily life in a positive way. At Pickens Savings and Loan we want to promote overall health because of the significant benefits it has in the work place. By encouraging and promoting a healthy workforce, we can help improve productivity, performance, staff morale and employee engagement.

For this year’s Fitness Challenge, we will give our employees a monthly calendar that list daily fitness challenges. Each challenge completed is worth points. There will also be surprise team challenges (Survivor style), where teams will go head to head in competitions. We have divided the employees into teams this year to help with accountability and to make the challenges more exciting. Each month the challenges will include the categories of physical activity, eating healthy, and emotional health. We recognize emotional health is just as important as physical and nutritional health for productivity in the workplace. The way employees think, feel, and behave can impact everything.

We are so excited to start focusing on eating healthier, being more physically active and taking care of our emotional health. Stay tuned on our Facebook page for announcements and updates throughout the Challenge.

2018 Fitness Challenge

Pickens Savings and Loan employees kick off National Nutrition Month with a three month fitness challenge

March 8, 2018

March is National Nutrition Month. National Nutrition Month is an educational campaign that is focused on the significance of eating nutritional meals and being physically active. Taking charge of your health contributes to overall well-being! Maintaining a healthy weight reduces risks of chronic illness such as heart disease and diabetes. At Pickens Savings and Loan, we realize the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and therefore wanted to challenge our employees to get active and eat healthy.

This is the 2nd year we have challenged our employees. In 2017, our employees were encouraged to participate in a fitness challenge that focused on miles and minutes walked in a day. The challenge lasted for 4 months and was such a success that we have decided to challenge our employees again this year.

In support of National Nutrition Month, this year’s challenge began on March 1, 2018. Our 2018 Fitness Challenge is a 3-month challenge that focuses on eating healthier and being more physically active. Participating employees will receive a fitness calendar for the months of March, April and May. Each calendar list a daily challenge with points that can be earned for completing the challenge. Some of the fitness challenges include walking a certain number of miles, drinking 64 oz. of water, eating low carb for the day, etc. At the end of each month a winner will be named and at the end of the Fitness Challenge in May we will name an overall Fitness Challenge Champion!

National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day 2017

Pickens Savings and Loan employees celebrate National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day

December 15, 2017

Christmas 2017Today at Pickens Savings and Loan we held our annual employee Christmas breakfast. On this day we all get together and enjoy a delicious breakfast made by some of the employees. Since our employee Christmas breakfast aligned with National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day, we decided to take advantage of that and make our breakfast even more festive.

National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day is a day to dress in your most festive sweater and have some light hearted fun. If you were wondering how National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day came about, you are not the only ones, we had some questions about it as well. According to The Fact Site, National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day is a holiday started by a group of “ugly Christmas sweater fanatics” in 2011.

Ugly Christmas sweaters started way earlier than 2011 because they can be seen in classic Christmas movies such as National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. National Ugly Christmas Day is simply just a fun way to get in the holiday spirit and that is certainly what we did today at Pickens Savings and Loan.

If you would like to participate National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day is always celebrated on the third Friday of December each year. So, if you still have that embarrassing Christmas sweater that your family member gave to you 10 years ago, get it out of your closet, throw it on and get in the Christmas spirit!

Some security best practices to follow are:

  • Do not open links in unsolicited text messages or emails.
  • Do not call any unfamiliar telephone numbers listed in suspicious text messages or emails.

An Emoji Halloween

Pickens Savings and Loan employees dress up as emoji's

October 31, 2017

The employees at Pickens Savings and Loan had a blast celebrating this Halloween! For our theme this year the employees decided to dress up as their favorite emoji. Halloween was packed full of fun activities. The day started out with trick-or-treaters coming by to see us and the employees made sure they could catch a glance at all of the creative and adorable costumes. Throughout the day there was a lot of candy being consumed and not just from the trick-or-treaters. The PS&L emojis ended the day by participating in the Trick-or-Treat on Main Street event. The turnout for the event was amazing and it brought out the Halloween spirit in all of us. It was so exciting to see all of the trick-or-treaters dressed up in their costumes and their happy faces from receiving candy. Thank you to all who celebrated Halloween with us!
